The short version

Who we are

BowWizard (bowwizard.com and the BowWizard Archery watch app) is run by Sam Reti. For any question or request about your data, email samreti07@gmail.com.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address and password. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication, so your password goes to Google and never reaches us. We also note the dates your account was first and last used.

Your shooting

Names and notes are whatever you type. If you name a course after a place or write a place in a note, that's stored like any other note.

Your Garmin watch, if you use one

The BowWizard Archery watch app sends us the movement of your bow arm around each shot (readings from the watch's motion sensors), the time of each shot, and what the watch worked out about it, such as hold time and steadiness. It doesn't send heart rate or location.

The watch identifies itself with a random code it makes up the first time it runs, plus its model name, not with your Garmin account. We store only a scrambled form of that code, linked to your BowWizard account when you pair. Shots reach us through the Garmin Connect app on your phone, so Garmin's privacy policy covers that part of the trip.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting provider (Google Cloud) keeps short-term logs of requests to our servers, including IP address, browser type and the page asked for, for security and troubleshooting. Our home page loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which also sees your IP address. We don't use advertising or analytics trackers.

On your phone, the app keeps your sign-in and any sessions and photos that haven't uploaded yet in your browser's own storage. That's what lets you shoot with no signal.

How we use it

We don't sell your personal information, share it with advertisers, or use it to show ads.

Who we share it with

Only companies that help run BowWizard, for that purpose only:

We'd also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety. If BowWizard were ever sold or merged, your data would move with it under this policy, and we'd tell you before that happened.

When you tap Share on a set, the app makes a picture on your phone and hands it to your phone's share menu. Where it goes from there is your choice. BowWizard never posts anything publicly.

Where it's kept and how it's protected

Your data is stored with Google Cloud in the United States. It travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), every request has to come from your signed-in account, and each account's data is kept separate. No system is perfect, but we work to keep yours safe and will tell you if something goes wrong that affects your data.

How long we keep it

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU and UK) or the CCPA (California) may give you more rights, including to access, correct, delete or move your data, and to object to how we use it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. We never treat you differently for using these rights.

For people in the EU and UK: we use your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), to improve arrow finding only with your consent (which you can withdraw in Setup at any time), and to keep BowWizard secure and working (legitimate interests). You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

For people in California: we don't sell or share your personal information for advertising.

Children

BowWizard is for people 13 and older. Children under 13 shouldn't create their own account; a parent can track a young archer's shooting in the parent's own account. If you think a child under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top. For changes that matter, we'll also tell you in the app before they take effect.
